The Powerful 2010 Nissan Sentra

By Karri Owens

In its current form, the Nissan Sentra is available in four trim levels: the standard 1.8 and 1.8 S trim levels, and the sporty SE-R and SE-R Spec V trim levels. The standard trims are equipped with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 126 hp while the SE-R and SE-R Spec V are equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 165hp and 175 hp, respectively.

One downside to the Nissan Sentra is the CVT's lack of versatility -- there's no way for a driver to change or hold ratios on his own. The SE-R with manual shift mode addresses this dilemma with simulated gear ratios, although for enthusiasts, this is still no substitute for a traditional clutch and stick.

The 2010 Nissan Sentra is powered by a 140-horsepower, 2.0-liter inline-4 mated to either a six-speed manual or continuously variable automatic transmission or electronic drive-by-wire throttle. For 2010, the base 2.0 model is unavailable with the six-speed manual.

This new-generation Nissan Sentra is 3 inches wider and 4 inches taller than previous versions. With the newly created, the Nissan Sentra is roomier and well qualified for the family and wide open road experience. Travel in style, travel in luxury, slip into a Nissan Sentra and travel.

The SE-R Spec V, which came with 10 more horsepower (175) and a 6-speed manual gearbox paired with a helical (mechanical) limited slip differential in addition to some minor suspension refinements. Unfortunately, base Sentras lost their front sway bar this year (they don't need a rear, since they use torsion bar suspension) further degrading their driveability.

The spicy SE-R trim ups the ante with a 177-horsepower motor displacing 2.5 liters from four cylinders matched with the CVT only. The wild and crazy SE-R Spec V has a 200-horsepower version and six-speed manual transmission. The SE-R Spec V is available only with a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission.
